About the Artist

As a self taught artist, her art journey began at an early age growing up in Ohio, and throughout her life Olivia has always been inspired by the beauty of nature and incorporates motifs of flowers, plants, animals, birds or butterflies into her paintings. She combines creative mark making, and gestural brushstrokes to create abstract realism, digital and mixed media paintings, that release the constraint between nature and the primarily feminine personality. From acrylic paint, to charcoal, ink, paint markers, spray paint, watercolor and watercolor pencils, to Caron d'ache and oil pastels, and also incorporating digital programs, a variety of media and colors are used on the canvas. Although inspiration may come from nature, a flower, a song, or a dream, Olivia uses the brush to express the innermost emotions of the subject of the painting. Working intuitively across the canvas whether digitally or on a physical canvas. Olivia doesn't know how the piece will look until completed. Instead she allows the process to flow and unfold, allowing the painting to tell her what it needs next. This same approach is applied to every piece as she continues to explore the boundaries between abstraction and realism in hopes that she will bring a message of positivity and enlightenment with her art
I am drawn to painting imaginative feminine portraits that convey emotion and personal expression, that indescribable thing that makes each individual unique that expresses the struggle toward and the fulfillment of reaching for your dreams. I try to grasp the hidden emotions and personality beneath what we can see with our eyes when we look at someone… the inner personality that reveals itself through expressions or non verbal cues. I often wonder what we would see if we could see into someone's heart or soul without actually having a conversation with them. I like to create texture using a variety of tools. I enjoy using acrylic, and various other art mediums, basically anything that will create the look I'm going for, on various sizes of heavyweight paper, or canvas and on digital programs as well. I use a variety of brushes, towels, fingers and scraping tools to achieve my desired effect. My favorite technique is very free and loose using large brushes. I like my brush strokes to hint to the emotion of the piece, whether it be loving and feminine, or brave and bold, or wistful and somber. All giving way to balanced, soothing, and partly abstract paintings. My art, to me, gives the viewer a peek into the innermost emotions of the subject of the painting. And I hope to bring a message of positivity and encouragement. But ultimately my aim is to inspire. I invite each viewer to allow my paintings to speak their message to them, because I believe art is a very personal thing.

Everyone here at the salon loved your painting! The colors are amazing when viewing in person vs in a picture. You painted it to go there didn't you? I have refused to hang hair posters in the salon, they are so bad. It will be nice to hang something that embodies true beauty...
